Angustia “Gusing” Zamora

My Lola….

… in our family, we call her “Mamang”. Our pillar. She has guided the whole family with 9 children, 30 or 32 grandchildren ( can’t recall how many attachments are still unaccounted for) and if im still updated 10 (+ 2 on the way) great-grandchildren.

She turned 89 last 12.11.2011. According to my cousin Shang, our Mamang is still in good shape. Just older, grander and happy. Sorry that I missed her birthday party this year. But I promised myself that I will be there next year for her 90th birthday.  You see, I grew up with my Lola. My mom is her fourth child. While my parents were working in Manila, my sibs and I had to stay with our Mamang in Dipolog until I was around 10 years old. Then my parents uprooted us all to Manila. Even then, we still went back to the province to be with her whenever our finances permitted it. Back then, it was only possible for us to travel by sea. It took always three days from Manila to Dipolog, but we braved it, my sibs and I … just to be with our Mamang. I still remember, my youngest sister Diday didn’t even want to go to Manila with our parents before. She only knew Mamang since she was only a baby when our parents left the province. She is still believed to be the favorite apo of our mamang… perhaps?°

Even now, whenever I come to visit, I always have to go to her first and foremost. Only after I have been to see her can I go on trotting to the resorts or other Islands in the Philippines. Our bonding routine? – Well, facial Spa and shopping, hehehe.

I may not be the favorite Apo (grandchild), but I am still thankful and  proud to have her Genes. Am also thankful for the first 10 years of my life that I spent with her. She is just the best Lola ever!

GULONG

Paikot-ikot at pagulong-gulong.

Disneyland Paris

With a sizzling 30 degrees temperature, we had a wonderful day at Disneyland Paris last week. Our entourage left in two cars at 06:30 and arrive Paris at around 10:00 after two stopovers. We were lucky there was no traffic jams along the way. We had a smooth drive from Brussels all the way to France.

Tickets were booked in advance so, we could just go through the entrance without staying in the very long cue for tickets. Once inside, we all scattered like a herd sheep running for the greener part of the meadow. Not before we arranged a time and place to meet later. First stop Fantasy Island, where Trish got freaked out by the dolls in the “Small World” ride. I loved it though! Later during the afternoon, Trish started feeling unwell. Had to rest for a while to give her medicine. Later though, the patient claimed she got sick for like six minutes only, hehehe. Once she started sweating, we just continued where we stopped to rest. We roamed around the area until almost midnight. Then we drove to the hotel where we would be spending the night. All in all, it was a really fun sunny day in Disneyland.

Koln with Trish and Ate Duds

By end of July, another niece, Trish arrived via CO 50 from New York-Newark. Since I couldn’t time off immediately, Duday and Trish had to stay for awhile longer here in Germany. They went out with hubby to Palmengarten, Saalburg before I finally drove with them to Brussels. On the way, we stopped by in Köln to see the Kölner Dom.

The night before we would be driving to Brussels, I got home really late from work. The minute I walked into the main door, Trish was already out from the other room to tell me she couldn’t sleep. So I slowly put my stuff down, I told her I would get her a glass of milk to help her sleep. I told her we should not be too noisy since we didn’t want to wake ate Duds up… to which sh e replied: “Oh, she’s awake, too”.

Hahaha, both girls couldn’t sleep being too excited for the drive the following morning.

Bonding with Duday in Berlin

My niece Duds came to visit me from Brussels. After roaming around Frankfurt am Main, going shopping at Wertheim Village and biking around Altenstadt, we decided to go to Berlin whilst hubby is away on a business trip. No sense staying in Altenstadt the whole time.

For two nights and three days, we roamed around Berlin. We stayed at a hotel in Potsdamer-Platz as hubby recommended. From there, we just either walked to almost all of the must see places there. The Siegelsäule, The Museum Island, The Berlin TV Tower and the Wax Museum to name some. Although the last one had a very long line when we went there despite the heavy rain, so we decided not to stay.

It was really fun despite the heavy rain that poured on the last day we were there. Duday almost didn’t want to leave the place anymore.

De Vossemeren Village, Centerparcs…

How time flies. Just a few weeks ago we were in Belgium then we had to come back to Germany for a few days to finish some business. Tomorrow, we are going back to Belgium. But not to Brussels this time. We will be driving straight to De Vossemeren village in Lommel, a town in the province of Limburg, situated Northwest of Belgium.

Centerparcs is a recreational Park for the whole family. There, one can have fun with the indoor wave pool which is equipped with several theme slides. Plus, go snorkeling or diving, wall climbing, bungee jumping, boating or cycling around the area. They have several lakes where one can also just laze about the shore and get some tan, if mr. Sunshine is generous enough to shine on the whole day or play beach ball, volleyball and lawn tennis. Otherwise, one can also enjoy the Indoor recreational sports like: table tennis, badminton, some rides for the kids, explore the Pirate Ship wreckage, etc. At the marketplace, they have also several activities programmed for the children. Courses like painting, cooking for kids, or parlor games are offered with their scheduled activities. For the adults, towards the evening they have live music or dancing. Bowling, pool and computer games can also be enjoyed inside the Village behind the Bar.

The Village itself is already at the border between Belgium and The Netherlands. I remember, the last time we were there, hubby woke up early one day and said he would go out to buy eggs… in Netherlands. I mean, talk about crossing border to the next country to have lunch, dinner or buy eggs!

The Centerparks is like one little vacation town. The cottages that they offer has a fully equipped kitchen. For parents who prefer a home-cooked meal during their stay at the park can do this. Or they can also eat out at the food court available in the market. Special services can also be arranged ahead. They also have hotel and business center available. I guess almost everything necessary in our everyday life. Oh, yes, everything is within walking distance. Or one can also take a bike tour around the whole village. Hubby used to cycle outside the Village. He went either towards The Netherlands or ride through Lommel and its neighboring towns.

Last time we were there was only for 3 days. This time we booked two cottages for one complete week. Hopefully all 4 kids would enjoy the stay. I know i will as I did last year.

I’m going to be a Ninang…

Again! I’m fine with that actually. I have no problems being a Ninang to kids. But this time, Ninang daw ako sa Kasal! Nyekk, does that mean matanda na talaga ako? Huwaaaaaaaaahhhh !!! 🙁 :worry: 🙁 :worry: 🙁

Had a message from my cousin a few weeks ago. Asking if I would be in the Philippines sometime around September. Said no, since I just got back from there January of this year. He wants me to be one of the Major sponsors to his wedding, he said. He asked me if I could come home for the event.

I had mixed emotions.

Malungkot – ibig sabihin matanda na talaga ako. Akala ko kasi Ninang sa anak ng cousin ko. Okay lang sana yun. Yun pala Ninang sa kasal niya, bhuhuhuhuh!

Natutuwa – ibig sabihin, i must have done something that makes my cousin think I am a good role model and someone he can turn to for advices. Ahemmmm!

Anyway, I said I would have to see what I can do about it. You see, I love to go back home to the Philippines as often as I can. But, due to the very high plane ticket prices, my pockets/wallet only allow me to go home every two years or so. Since I just got back mid January this year, this means my next scheduled homecoming should not be later than end of 2012.

I checked for tickets anyway. I searched and looked at the websites that i often visit and even those that I haven’t visited as well. The cheapest I could find is with Etihad Airlines for 480€ roundtrip inclusive of all taxes. Hmmm… a bit expensive, still. Maybe I should wait for last minute offers. I heard that it is also good to wait at the last minute to get good deals. Maybe I get lucky. The wedding is on September 4, 2010, this means I still have almost 4 weeks to look around. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

Summer…

Yes, it’s here. When I got back from the great US of A., the weather was again a bit chilly as opposed to the time before I left. But come late June till early July, I felt it already when the temperature reached up to 38 degrees celcius. That was awesome. Hot but fun!!!

I am now in Belgium visiting. It’s not as hot as in the beginning of July. Still, I feel like its summer vacation for me too, since I am now with my sisters, nieces and nephew. Cool!
